I absolutely love being here for my families when they’re baptising their children. When I’m shooting baptisms and christenings, I’m in the zone – I’m on the sidelines of the action, like a formally-dressed ninja, floating in the background with my quiet shutters and silent shoes – but because I’m shooting with a variety of lenses on two camera bodies, I can be in amongst the action capturing every moment you see (and many you don’t!). Christenings are a joy to capture too, there’s so much beauty and sentiment and ceremony, and everything is instilled with a sense of meaning and history and joy. The details, the smiles, the moments of family joy – they just call to me. Documentary photography and christenings are a match made in heaven.
This gorgeous christening of little Chloe was my fifth baptism in this particular church alone – St Paul’s of the Cross, in Dulwich Hill. It’s a stunning church with loads of ambience and history. The priest who held this baptism was a crowd favourite, with plenty of smiles and joy going around as he performed the sacred baptism rites.
I’ve photographed Chloe and her family on multiple occasions, and nothing brings me more happiness than following the lives of my families and being invited back to be with them at their happiest moments. Thank you, to all of my repeat clients, who welcome me in to their homes and hearts for life’s big events. I’m truly grateful.
