Two gorgeous women. A beautiful sunny Sydney day. A walk through Hyde Park. A tear-filled ceremony in the NSW State Library. And a joyful reception at the The Mint.

Hey, bibliophiles amongst us – did you know that you can get married in the NSW State Library? Neither did I! If you’re a book lover like I am, there’s no better place to marry the person you love – surrounded by history, family, and the amazing smell of old books.

I can’t even tell you how lovely this day was. This wedding contains so many elements that I absolutely love to see in my unique, couple-centred weddings. Couple getting ready together – tick! Portraits before the ceremony – tick! A costume change at the reception – tick! Ceremony and reception within quick and easy walking access – TICK!

After getting ready at the Sheraton Hotel, beautiful brides Emma and Amy took a giddy walk with me through Sydney’s Hyde Park and surrounds for some beautiful, affectionate portraits, on their way to the State Library for their ceremony. Our gorgeous brides wanted to highlight the cityscape in their photography, exploring portrait options throughout the Sydney CBD, so our joyful skip from the Sheraton to the Library yielded a fabulous collection of portraits so large that I couldn’t possibly post them all here. Thirty minutes, a heart of adventure, and a documentary-style photographer ready to take on the world – that’s all you need for truly carefree, easy, relaxed wedding photos!

(For those wondering: the biggest benefit of having portraits before your ceremony is that your makeup is fresh and on point, your faces aren’t yet aching from smiling and laughing, and everything is so exciting and thrilling that it just shines out of your faces. Look at their faces!)

Emma and Amy were surrounded by a large loving crowd of family and friends in the aptly named Friends Room, and their ceremony included a tea ceremony, where tea is formally served to the parents of the brides, to show respect and love. There were tears, there was laughter, there was so much love in the room – it was stunning. A beautiful reception at The Mint followed shortly afterwards, and ran long in to the night.

If I could photograph this wedding ten times over, I would. It was a joy.
