Catholic christening at St Paul’s of the Cross

I absolutely love being here for my families when they're baptising their children. When I'm shooting baptisms and christenings, I'm in the zone - I'm on the sidelines of the action, like a formally-dressed ninja, floating in the background with my quiet shutters and silent shoes - but because I'm shooting with a variety of lenses on two camera bodies, I can be in amongst the action capturing every moment you see (and many you don't!). Christenings are a joy to capture too, there's so much beauty and sentiment and ceremony, and everything is instilled with a sense of

Wedding at the NSW State Library + Sydney Mint

Two gorgeous women. A beautiful sunny Sydney day. A walk through Hyde Park. A tear-filled ceremony in the NSW State Library. And a joyful reception at the The Mint. Hey, bibliophiles amongst us - did you know that you can get married in the NSW State Library? Neither did I! If you're a book lover like I am, there's no better place to marry the person you love - surrounded by history, family, and the amazing smell of old books. I can't even tell you how lovely this day was. This wedding contains so many elements that I absolutely love

Unposed wedding photography at The Grounds of Alexandria

One of the sweetest weddings I've attended is contained within this post. Beautiful city location: check! Flower crown: check! Cute wedding separates instead of a long white dress: check! First look: check! Laughter and comfort and generosity of spirit: check! Bride and groom so in love with each other it makes your teeth hurt: CHECK! Meg and Chris were married at The Grounds of Alexandria, in the "Atrium" area. I don't know if you've ever been to The Grounds before, but it's a really magical little place - like a little country gardening village in the middle of Sydney city. It's also

Unposed christening photography – Our Lady of Rosary Parish

Every christening is a special event in a family’s life, and every one deserves to be celebrated and captured. I love photographing christenings because they’re all about love - love of family, love of church, love of friends, love of ceremony. And then sometimes, love of a good party. This christening took place in a location new to me - Our Lady of the Rosary parish church in Kellyville, in the Hills District of Sydney. This was my first time shooting in a Catholic church in the Hills area, and let me tell you - it did not disappoint. Our

Unposed family photography – Toby at home

I love loyal repeat clients. I have a lot of them. The benefits of cultivating a relationship with a client over multiple sessions and many years is that I know what they love, I know what they're looking for, and I know their family dynamics and personalities, so I can give them the absolute best images possible every time. I know what's meaningful to them. In this case, I know Emily, Graham and Toby, because this is my SIXTH session with them. I photographed (get ready for it) their engagement session, their wedding, Emily's pregnancy, the days straight after their son was born, their beautiful

Catholic christening documentary photography – Ava

Dear little Ava was christened at Holy Name of Mary Church in Hunters Hill, Sydney, on a warm cloudy day. I hadn't photographed inside this particular church before, so man was I impressed with the light and the beauty it contained.  Everything about this christening was gorgeous and classic - the church, the ceremony, the christening gown, the lovely bonnet that went with it (is it just me who thinks we should bring back the bonnet?). It was a true pleasure to document, and if I had my way (hang on, could I have my way?) I'd photograph nothing but christenings ,

Unposed surprise wedding – Maeve and Lorenzo

Maeve and Lorenzo invited me to photograph their wonderful and unusual surprise wedding in the small town of Katoomba, in NSW's Blue Mountains. They had told all of their friends that they were meeting at Hotel Blue for themed murder mystery 40th birthday party for Lorenzo, with their guests none the wiser as to their plans. After guests drove through the thick fog and gathered in the amazing lounge for a "present reveal", Lorenzo coyly placed a flower in his buttonhole, a harpist began to play, and then out walked Maeve in an incredible floor-length gown. I can't begin to tell you

Wedding on the beach – Verity and Wazza

Beach. Teal dress. Celebratory piñata. Oh man. This wedding. Ooooooooh, this wedding. Verity and Chris (aka "Wazza") called me because they were looking for some simple, documentary wedding photography that didn't involve spending two hours away from their guests to take posed photographs. They came to the right girl. They were married at Coledale Beach on the NSW south coast, in a nice quiet spot beside the surf club with only their immediate families in attendance; they then had seventy of their nearest and dearest friends gather inside the surf Coledale Surf Club for drinks and nibbles and very light-hearted frivolity. The weather was

Family documentary shoot – Robbie on the farm

This is the third time I have photographed little Robbie and his family - I photographed his amazing mother Bridget while she was pregnant, being loved by her gorgeous horses (you can see it here), and then I photographed Robbie and his parents when he was only a few weeks old (you can see it here!). Horses are a running theme with Bridget's shoots! So when I was called back to photograph Robbie again at fifteen months, in an entirely documentary family photography session, I was so happy. The way I shoot is loose, and relaxed, and pretty much the opposite of in-your-face. Here I

Family shoot – Rory in Scone

Shooting in the Hunter Valley area of New South Wales has always been a serious perk of my job - I love the scenery, the people, the horses, the relaxed atmosphere - I love pretty much everything about it. (You can see a previous shoot of a Scone maternity and newborns here and here!) I photographed young Rory and his lovely parents when he was a wrinkly little newborn, and I was so honoured to be asked to come to document him at five months old. Family documentary photography has become my obsession and my passion, and I just can't do anything photographically that

Christening shoot – Catholic Christening in Waverley

Recently I photographed the christening of gorgeous little Georgia at Mary Immaculate Church, in Waverley. I really enjoy documenting orthodox and traditional ceremonies such as these because they always come with such a sense of occasion and are filled with such wonderful traditions, and this Catholic ceremony in this spectacular church was no exception. I think my favourite part of the ceremony was when the Georgia's cousin, unable to contain her enthusiasm nor bear the crying of the newly baptised baby any longer, ran up twirling to the steps of the altar to greet her favourite baby. She held her hand, made

Baby shoot – Batman at 8 weeks

Little baby Batman (also known as Toby) has been a long time in the making for me. I photographed his parents' wedding invites, their wedding (here), their maternity portraits (here), and I photographed Toby himself when he was less than 48 hours old and still in hospital (here). So to say I was chuffed to photograph him as an unfurled baby is an understatement! He was eight weeks old at the time of our session, and seriously, I just can't get enough of his strawberry hair and serious blue eyes. Just a gorgeous boy. Shot in the North Sydney home

Newborn shoot – Harriet

Harriet was only seven days old when I visited her sun-drenched home in Woronora Heights, in Sydney's Sutherland Shire, and her big sister Florence had just turned one. How lucky am I? Not only were this family incredibly well put-together for a brand-new family of four, their home also looks like a styled shoot for Vogue Living - I swear to you, I didn't move a THING in this house. It just looks like that all the time. The worst part is, they're also incredibly nice! It's just not fair. Trust me, not all of my clients are this magazine-ready level

Wedding – Jess and Liz

I just want to lay it out for you all, since I don't want to be a vendor who is vague about the people to whom they offer services - I am absolutely and unequivocally in support of same-sex marriage. I love weddings, I love marriage, and I believe that everyone should have the right to marry the person they love. I'm an equal opportunity vendor - I serve the conservative, the liberal, the straight, the gay, the single, the disabled, the differently-abled, the young, the old, and everything in between. I'm delighted that my straight friends and clients have
