Tuesday. Secret lunchtime ceremony. Seven guests. The amazing hidden setting of Paddington Reservoir.
A recipe for a perfect wedding.
Samantha and Scott decided to get married in the intimate presence of their few dearest friends, and their baby daughter, in the incredible underground gardens in Sydney’s CBD. I mean, look at this place: it’s a wonderland of columns, arches, luscious green gardens, and unbelievable light – what a backdrop for a cosy, simple, luxurious elopement!
I was asked to document their day for only two hours – because when your wedding is perfectly succinct, you don’t need any more than that for a stunning photographic collection. They chose me because while they wanted a few more formal portraits taken with my experienced guidance, they were also in love with the idea of someone who could stand on the outside of such a close, romantic affair, capture all the true little moments of intimacy and love without getting in the way or taking it over. Enter me… their friendly ninja documentary photographer, with my long lenses, near-silent shutters, and happy chilled out vibe, capturing every gorgeous moment from the sidelines, until the decisive moment strikes…
Oh, and it started to rain halfway through our portraits. The beautiful couple just laughed and kept dancing to their favourite song. Could it have been any more perfect?!
There’s a cliché that all weddings require churches, big receptions, bouquet tosses, bridal parties, crowds of guests, lengthy speeches, and a hefty bill to pay. But my favourite thing about my clients is that they show me, over and over again, that there are hundreds of ways to have an amazing, meaningful wedding.
And as it turns out, I think my new favourite is mid-week elopements. If you’re thinking about making one of the most romantic days of your life perfectly bite-sized, consider the Paddington Reservoir. And consider a documentary photographer who won’t make your day all about them, and will offer a small package to suit your cherished moment. (Quick tip: that’s me! Contact me to find out my teeny tiny packages.)
Happy eloping!
