I do a lot of work in the Hunter Valley, and while I’d love to boast that it’s just because I’m in high demand up there, the truth is that it is one of my favourite NSW locations, ever. The landscape is stunning, the people are wonderful, the children are laid-back and cute as buttons, and the weather is always phenomenal. Even on a windy, overcast spring day, there’s something special about the mood up there. It just breathes life.
Alison and Bridget and their families are wonderful loyal clients of mine, and to date I have captured their babies and toddlers growing over the last two years half a dozen times. In November they asked me to come and do a session with each of them amongst the jacarandas on one of their horse studs, and I jumped at the chance, because – I don’t know if you know this about me – I am OBSESSED with jacarandas. Utterly obsessed. When jacaranda season rolls around I’m that crazy lady running down the street, kicking at the purple clouds, shouting “LET’S TAKE PHOTOOOOOOOOS!” I just think they are utterly beautiful and so quintessentially Australian. So it was a real joy to photograph these two young families frolicking amongst my favourite flowers, capturing everything I love about the Hunter in only a few frames.
