Every christening is a special event in a family’s life, and every one deserves to be celebrated and captured. I love photographing christenings because they’re all about love – love of family, love of church, love of friends, love of ceremony. And then sometimes, love of a good party.
This christening took place in a location new to me – Our Lady of the Rosary parish church in Kellyville, in the Hills District of Sydney. This was my first time shooting in a Catholic church in the Hills area, and let me tell you – it did not disappoint. Our Lady of the Rosary is an absolutely stunning church with enormous stained glass windows and a spectacular roof, and a perfect mix of modern and traditional elements. The rich colours were just beautiful.
I was asked by her family to come and document the intimate and sweet process of getting ready, as well as the church ceremony. This christening of little Charlotte was followed by a reception at her family’s home, complete with a lovely cake table, decorations, and flowers (see the bottom of this text for a list of vendors). It was absolutely beautiful and I’m so happy to have been asked to be there.
Not every christening has to be big. But all christenings are, by nature, beautiful. Even the smallest of backyard ceremonies to celebrate this moment in a child’s life are filled with wonderful, meaningful moments. Consider commissioning a documentary photographer to capture all these moments, the next time you are planning a christening or baptism. I think it’s worth it.
